About Me - andreaberry.co.uk - Cheltenham - Gloucestershire Counselling Service

Hi, My name is Andrea Berry

I I undertook my core training in Psychodynamic Counselling at Gloucestershire Counselling Service in conjunction with the University of the West of England.

I have my own private Counselling practice in Central Cheltenham where I see clients one to one and also supervise counsellors.

My professional qualifications are as follows:

  • Degree in Psychodynamic counselling Theory & Practice (University of the west of England)
  • Diploma in Psychodynamic counselling (Wpf validated)
  • Higher education certificate in Psychodynamic counselling Theory & Practice (University of the West of England Award)
  • Certificate in Psychodynamic counselling Theory & Practice (Gloucestershire Counselling Service award)
  • Advanced Diploma in Counselling Supervision
  • Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural therapy & Motivational Interviewing

I work with individual clients, providing a confidential and professional service in which to build a relationship of trust and openness. The work we do together might be short or long- term, depending on your needs. I will work with you at the pace that you want.

I am very passionate about what I do and my aim is to support and help you to hopefully live a happier life and for you to have someone to turn to. Talking with friends and family is invaluable, but they are involved in your life and it might feel too risky to expose them to your darker thoughts and feelings. There could be too much at stake. This may be when a counsellor is just the right person to turn to, someone with whom there is nothing at stake.

As part of my Continued Professional Development (CPD), I attend courses and meet regularly with other counsellors. I follow the Guidelines for Good Practice of my professional body, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) of which I am a member. I have regular supervision of my work. Reviewing my work with my supervisor helps me give you the best service I can. Whilst we are in counselling contact, I keep my copies of our work on my personal, password protected computer and any client notes are anonymised and kept in a locked cabinet.

I am also registered with the information commissioner as a controller of sensitive data under the Data Protection Act (1998) - registration number ZA404533. You can check and verify my registration by going to http://ico.gov.uk - the Information Commissioners Office. I follow the government’s recommendations and guidance for storing and handling sensitive data (such as transcripts of counselling sessions & my notes). I hold full business indemnity insurance.

I am committed to Equal Opportunities and welcome people without discrimination of age, class, culture, gender, marital status, physical ability, race, religion or sexual orientation. I respect difference including the right of people to hold different views.
